West Seventh Businesses Honored

by Jerry Rothstein

Winners of the third annual St. Paul Business Awards based on nominations from the community were announced by City Council and include two West Seventh enterprises. The award categories are Traditions, New Kid on the Block, Good Neighbor and People’s Choice.

Waldmann Brewery & Wurstery won the New Kid on the Block category, for a business that has opened in St. Paul within the last five years. Ward 2 Council Member Rebecca Noecker said, “I’m thrilled to be recognizing this great new business in the West Seventh neighborhood. They’ve shown a huge commitment to preserving St. Paul’s rich history, by restoring the oldest commercial building in the Twin Cities, while providing a great place for neighbors and visitors alike to enjoy a great meal and a beer.”

Brake Bread is the winner of the Good Neighbor Award, which honors a business that shows a dedication to improving the community. “Brake Bread not only sells delicious baked goods but has a model of sustainability that demonstrates their deep commitment to community — from their bike delivery subscription service to their use of local ingredients,” said Noecker.
