Tori Ramen Starts GoFundMe to avoid closure

Tori Ramen, 603 West 7th St., is asking the community for help to stave off having to close its doors.

Owner Jason Dorweiler posted on the crowdfunding site GoFundMe last month that he needs to raise over $120,000 by the end of September to make a balloon payment or risk foreclosure.

“I must be clear that using this platform was the absolute last move I wanted to make, and it’s still hard to draft this story,” Dornweiler said in a post on the site. “All I have ever really wanted to do was make great food and serve it.”

Dornweiler said in his post that, like many restaurants, recovering from the COVID pandemic has been especially tough on his business.

The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal reported that Dornweilier purchased the building in  2019 for $300,000 with a $120,139 balloon payment due October 1 of this year.

Dornweiler said that all of the funds he raises will go directly to paying off his loan.

“It is the first property I have ever tried to purchase,” he said.
