From Owner Laura Martell Kelly

Please describe your business/efforts in Highland Park.

We offer fabrics, classes, and notions and lots of encouragement for people to be creative and sew. For kids we offer after school sewing classes during the school year and Fabulous Fabric Fun Sewing camps during the summer. Adult classes are scheduled throughout the year and we host community sewing days at least once a quarter when we sew simple projects for community organizations. We welcome customers and students of all sewing abilities including those who need to pick up thread to sew on a button. We offer the community a local shop for fabrics and notions where they can ask questions and get support and be with a community of other creative people.

When did you first start your business/efforts in Highland Park?

Sew Invitng opened in May of 2024.

What was the inspiration for doing the work you do?

I have sewn since I was little kid and I learned by trial and error and directions from my mom. It was long before You Tube or Instagram tutorials. I have always been creative and I enjoy problem solving with fabric. Teaching sewing or helping people pick out fabrics for a project allows me to pass on my enthusiasm and knowledge and help build others’ confidence.

What’s your favorite thing about Highland Park?

I have lived in Highland park for 27 years and my favorite thing about the community is that I can walk to everything and I have great neighbors. I love being able to walk to my store.
