Cat aMEWsement Brings Specialty Cat Boutique To Grand Avenue

Grand Avenue Spotlight

Cat owners searching for something beyond the typical pet-store aisle have a new destination on Grand Avenue.

Cat aMEWsement, a boutique devoted entirely to cats and the people who love them, moved from Lowertown to Grand Avenue in May. Owner Nikki Christopher said the shop is excited to join the corridor’s long tradition of independent businesses offering distinctive products.

“The love of cats and the fact that cat products are not prioritized at pet stores” inspired the business, Christopher said.

Cat aMEWsement specializes in products that may be difficult to find at general pet retailers, including handmade cat toys, high-quality food and water bowls, carriers, furniture and climbing systems. The store also carries cat-themed clothing, jewelry, accessories and gifts for humans.

Many of its products are locally made, including Purfect Paws Catwalls, Purrniture cat furniture, shirts and a variety of toys, according to Christopher. The store’s online inventory also includes catnip and silvervine toys, harness-and-leash sets and an extensive collection of cat-themed jewelry.

The specialized selection reflects Christopher’s belief that cats and their owners deserve more choices than they often receive at conventional pet stores.

The move also places Cat aMEWsement among the locally owned shops that Christopher considers one of Grand Avenue’s defining features.

Her favorite thing about the avenue, she said, is “the small businesses specializing in unique items.”

Cat aMEWsement is a member of the Grand Avenue Business Association. Customers can learn more about the boutique and browse its products at catamewsement.com.
