State flag finalists chosen
The State Emblems Redesign Commission has selected six designs as the basis for the next Minnesota state flag out of the over 2100 submitted from the public in November.
In addition to the state flag, the State of Minnesota is holding a concurrent process for selecting a new state seal. Five designs as the basis for the next state seal have been selected as finalists out of the over 300 submitted.
The Minnesota state flag finalists are F29, F944, F1154, F1435, F1953, and F2100. All of the designs can be viewed at serc.mnhs.org/flags.
The Minnesota state seal finalists are S2, S6, S27, S147, and S224 and can be viewed at serc.mnhs.org/seals.
The final designs for both the flag and seal may be modified by the commission, including changes to shapes and colors.
The State Emblems Redesign Commission will be collecting input from Minnesotans on the designs. The final designs chosen will be made into flags and printed images of seals. The Commission will select the final designs next month.
The State Emblems Redesign Commission was established in the 2023 legislative session to develop and adopt a new design for the official state seal and a new design for the official state flag no later than January 1, 2024.
I hope it’s not too late to comment. Including the North Star is great as is blue for all our wonderful lakes & rivers but we definitely need green for all our beautiful parks!!
