Registration Open for SPPD Civilian Police Academy
The St. Paul Police Department invites engaged community members and leaders to join their Civilian Academy and become partners in fostering strong police and community relations. This seven-week program offers education for residents and workers of St. Paul around the policies and operation of their police department, increasing understanding of the legal structures guiding law enforcement while obtaining valuable feedback from our community.
Experienced police officers and civilian personnel with expertise in law enforcement provide instruction. Attendees will hear about insights and first-hand experiences of managing safety in the city. Some of the subjects covered will include Community Policing & Ethics, Basic Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Traffic, Local Ordinances, Domestic Crisis, Defensive Tactics – Use of Force, Procedures, Firearms, Vehicle Stops, Vehicle Operations and management of a Crime Scene.
The Civilian Academy is free to participants, who must be at least 18 years of age, pass a background check and commit to attending the three-hour session each week for approximately 7 weeks. Registration is open now and closes on December 27th.
