New Asian Market Moving Closer To Opening

Viengchan Oriental Market is moving ever closer to opening its doors at the site of the former Cooper’s Foods, 633 West 7th. St.

In a Facebook post on November 22, they said they were 90% complete with their remodel of the store and would be “opening soon.”

Owner Papeng Yang said that they could be opening their doors very soon.

“We are hoping to open in mid-December,” she said. “We are just waiting for the City to approve.”

Yang said the remodel was basically complete and that they hoped to have a big grand opening celebration as soon as their permitting process is complete.

The site has been closed since late June of this year when Gary and Sandy Cooper, who operated Cooper’s Foods in the space since 1992, decided to sell their final locally-owned grocery store. At their peak they ran seven stores throughout the metro.

Viengchan has been operating a family-owned Asian grocery in Brooklyn Park since 2016. This will be their first major expansion of their established location.
