Back to school with SPPL

September is back-to-school time for kids and families, and your St. Paul Public Library (SPPL) is here to support the success of students of all ages.

SPPL offers online and in-person homework help. Visit sppl.org/homework and use your library card to access one-to-one online homework help from a professional academic tutor, or find hours and locations of a Homework Center at a library near you. Homework Centers at six library locations open on September 23.

Students in grades 1-5 who need help improving their reading skills can sign up for the Reading Together program, where SPPL matches young readers with mentoring volunteers who help them discover the joy of reading and boost reading skills in fun and creative ways.

SPPL is seeking Homework Center and Reading Together volunteers to help students with schoolwork and reading skills. Visit sppl.org/volunteer to learn more. Training is provided. Become a volunteer and really make a difference.

Lastly, SPPL is excited to announce that the Mobile Library is now on the road serving communities throughout St. Paul. The Mobile Library replaces the previous Bookmobile that reached the end of its useful library life after serving St. Paul residents for more than 19 years. The new traveling library offers DVDs and books in multiple languages to borrow, as well as programming for all ages, staff who can help answer technology-related questions and access broadband internet. The West 7th Library, located in the West 7th Community Center at 265 Oneida Street, has regular programming for children and families: Playdate, a time for families with young children to socialize and play together, Tuesdays 3:00-5:00 p.m. and Storytime on Wednesdays 10:30-11:15 a.m. The West 7th Community Center is a polling place for primary elections Tuesday, August 13.
