The St. Paul City Council voted unanimously to accept a $100,000 donation from Unity Church-Unitarian to support the work of the St. Paul Recovery Act Community Reparations Commission.
The commission was established in 2023 to address the lasting impacts of discriminatory policies, including redlining and the destruction of the Rondo neighborhood. The donation will fund community listening sessions, public education, research and development of a Harm Report.
Commission Chair Trahern Crews called the gift “an act of accountability,” while Council members described it as a milestone in moving from acknowledgment to repair.
The commission’s 2026 work plan includes recommendations for a Reparatory Justice Fund, a Slavery Disclosure Ordinance and an Anti-Black Hate Crime Resolution. City leaders said the donation strengthens St. Paul’s commitment to community-led healing and reparative justice.
