Lake Elmo Inn Owners to Open New Restaurant at Union Depot

The award-winning restauranteurs behind Lake Elmo Inn are opening a new restaurant at Union Depot in St. Paul. Owners Chef John and Christine Schiltz and their team will launch 1881 by Lake Elmo Inn on Thursday, July 18.

The name “1881” pays homage to the year both the original Union Depot and Lake Elmo Inn opened, reflecting the deep historical connection the restaurant hopes to foster.

A family-owned venture, 1881 by Lake Elmo Inn will be operated in part by Frank Hopp (Christine’s son) and Anna Schiltz (John’s daughter). Offering a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere, 1881 by Lake Elmo Inn will merge the charm of a storied past with a modern culinary flair.

The menu will include both favorites from the flagship restaurant as well as exclusive new offerings hand-crafted from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant will also boast a bar serving craft cocktails and an extensive wine list, house-made desserts including the fan favorite “Sin of the Inn” and a kids’ menu.

Regular hours for 1881 by Lake Elmo Inn will be Wednesday through Sunday   11 a.m. – 8 p.m. They will be closed Monday and Tuesday. For more information and reservations, visit 1881bylei.com.
