DESCRIPTION:Wednesdays\, June 10-July 29. 6-8 p.m. Marjorie McNeely Conservatory. Free admission. \n\n\n\nThe popular Groovin’ in the Garden concert series returns to the grounds of the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory with eight weeks of free outdoor music performances and family-friendly activities. Concertgoers are invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy performances ranging from reggae and country to Latin dance music and blues-infused rock. Featured acts include Salsa del Soul\, Innocent Reggae Band and School of Rock youth bands. In addition to live music\, the event includes food trucks\, lawn games\, a climbing wall and children’s activities such as hula hoops and bouncy balls. Beer\, wine\, popcorn\, ice cream and soft drinks will also be available for purchase. Hosted on the scenic conservatory lawn at Como Park Zoo and Conservatory\, the summer tradition offers a relaxed community gathering space for families and music lovers throughout the season. The production tells the story of legendary Boundary Waters resident Dorothy Molter\, who became famous for brewing root beer and living independently in the remote North Woods near the Canadian border. The play explores Molter’s resilience\, humor and connection to nature while challenging the notion that she was simply “the loneliest woman in America\,” as she was once labeled nationally. The production blends storytelling\, humor and Minnesota history while highlighting themes of independence\, wilderness preservation and personal choice.
