Eventually I got sober and by the time I was twenty-one I was sober for about two years, and I felt directionless in my life. I did not have any goals or inspirations; however, I was still painting and writing. I then decided to enroll in school with the idea of majoring in psychology and becoming a therapist, but I knew that psychology would not make me happy. I prayed to the universe for direction and guidance. All of a sudden, when I was at work a thought came to me: the only limits I have are the ones I set upon myself. I then looked at life like a field of flowers filled with many colors and possibilities. The flowers closest to me represented psychology. I knew I could get there if I wanted to, but the ones further away, were the ones that I really wanted, and I wasn’t sure how to get to them. That is when I decided I would find my way to what it was that I really loved.

From the very beginning of my art career I have been fascinated with the human form — as a conveyer of movement, expression, and emotion. Ten years ago I began painting nudes and exploring the human figure in natural and unnatural positions. Today I paint clothed portraits of friends and acquaintances. I enjoy the challenge of capturing the variety of lines, shadows, space and texture of a clothed form. Most importantly I seek to paint an honest vision of what I see, so that I may create a human connection and experience on canvas. My goal is to bring subjects to life by inviting the viewer into a vivid sensory experience.
