With the work of NORC (Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities) and its partners beginning in the West End and Highland, a number of related activities are planned by NORC and other programs of interest to seniors and those who work with and care for them.
• Jewish Family Services and Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly offer an eight week Reminiscence Group for people over 60 interested in experiencing memories through storytelling. The group runs for eight weeks starting February 2. Call Anna Ford at JFS, 651-690-8937. • NORC Presents Conversations with Caregivers, a year-long series of informative presentations and discussions designed to bring current and future caregivers together to learn and share experiences. First meeting at the Shaller Family Campus, 740 Kay Avenue, 2-3 p.m. as follows: February 14, 2010 Things to Do During the Long Minnesota Winter with Beth Gendler, St. Paul JCC. Activity ideas for caregivers and care recipients. Info: Chris 651-698-0767. For respite care reservations, call Jim 651-328-2068. • Minnesota Creative Arts and Aging Network (MnCAAN) is dedicated to expanding opportunities for creative expression by older adults through the arts; through education and support for organizations to develop arts programming for older adults, encouragement of artists to share their expertise, showing artists’ works and linking groups and artists to improve collaboration, MnCAAN enriches the creative environment. Their website, MnCAAN.net, offers an e-newsletter and many other resources. • River’s Edge — Playback Theatre is an original form of improvisational theater in which an audience or members of a group tell stories from their lives and watch them enacted on the spot by an ensemble of actors. When used in a workshop setting, Playback allows each group member to be actor, musician and storyteller in a group of peers, where all share and witness each others’ stories. • MnCAAN Monthly Forums: Playback Theatre is the highlight of the first of a series of free Creative Aging around Town public meetings. Starts February 25, 10 a.m. to noon, St. Paul Jewish Community Center (1375 St. Paul Ave). For information about MnCAAN see MnCAAN.net, and for Playback Theatre go to riversedgeplayback.org of phone Jay McManus, 651-225-9457. Future Forums explore a variety of ways for older adults to explore their creativity and lived experience. |

Crime in St. Paul is on the decline and has been for some time. Despite the positive trend, we must remain aware of crime in our neighborhood and work to create a safe place for our families and neighbors.
